Best Luxe Water FX Alternative

If you're an artist looking for alternatives to traditional resin, you may have come across Wynn Modern Art's Luxe WaterFX. This non-toxic fluid art top coat is advertised as a safer and easier-to-use alternative to resin, with a similar clear, high-gloss finish. But is it really the best option for your artwork?

Well, stick around because I have found a much less expensive alternative which works exactly the same as Luxe Water FX.

Understanding Luxe Water FX

First let's talk about what Luxe Water FX is and why artists use it.

Luxe Water FX is an acrylic polymer emulsion that acts as a pouring medium and top coat alternative to resin. It is advertised as being safer to use than resin and does not require gloves, masks, or ventilation.

Luxe Water FX used to come in a clear and a glow-in-the dark version. Now, the glow-in-the dark version is no longer available for purchase.

The clear variation is perfect for achieving a resin-like clear, high-gloss finish, even though the end result is not quite as hard or glass-like as resin.

Luxe Water FX is advertised for its ability to create 3D water droplets on your artwork by simply adding the Luxe Water FX Clear in a small dot and letting it dry. The result is a realistic-looking water droplet effect that adds depth and texture to your artwork. However, I have found that this is not completely true! I've tried this technique and the droplets do flatten out somewhat.

Luxe Water FX is archival and water-resistant, making it a great option for long-lasting artwork. If any Luxe Water FX gets on your skin, it can easily be cleaned with warm soapy water or wet wipes.

It's also water-based, which makes it easier to clean up than traditional resin. However, some artists have reported that it's not as durable as resin and can scratch or peel over time.

Additionally, it may not be suitable for all types of artwork, such as pieces that will be exposed to high heat, even though it is marketed as being heat resistant. Check out this video where you'll see how Luxe Water Fx didn't hold up in a heat resistant test.

One downside to Luxe Water Fx is it's high cost. An 8 ounce bottle costs around $59 when not on sale! That is a whopping $7.40/ounce. Ouch!!!

So if you have considered Luxe Water Fx for your artwork, you are going to be absolutely in shock when I show you my alternative at a fraction of the cost!

When you purchase an 8 ounce bottle of my alternative product, you'll only end up paying $1.42/ounce! And if you purchase it by the gallon, the cost only ends up being $0.90/ounce.

Crazy hugh?

So what is this amazing alternative?

Tri Art Liquid Glass!

Tri Art Liquid Glass Vs Luxe Water Fx

First of all, let me tell you that I have been using Tri Art Liquid Glass for a very long time!

I first found it when I was trying to find a pouring medium that would dry up completely clear. After I purchased it, I realized that Liquid Glass could not only be used as a pouring medium but it was also meant to be used as a top coat. So I started using it in my art and fell in love!!!

Liquid Glass left the colors in my artwork looking vibrant and glossy when used as a pouring medium. When used as a top coat, the glossy finish looked very similar to resin, however, it didn't have that hard and glass-like characteristic as resin.

Nonetheless, it was the closest thing to resin I had ever used!

Then I found Luxe Water Fx and decided to give this product a try because I thought it would leave my artwork with a more resin-like finish. However, even though the top coat was beautiful and glossy, the results were exactly the same as if I had used Tri Art Liquid Glass.

In fact, when I received my Luxe Water Fx bottle, I was in shock that it looked exactly the same as the Tri Art Liquid Glass I had at home. And when looking into each of these products in a little more depth, I came to realize that both were acrylic polymer emulsions!

So after trying both products, did I find any difference between the performance and the look of these two products? No I didn't!

Well... the only difference was the price difference!

Tri Art Liquid Glass is not advertised as being heat resistant, however, when compared side by side to Luxe Water Fx, Liquid Glass was a little more heat resistant than the Luxe Water Fx. Liquid Glass can resist some heat but it is best not to use it for items that will withstand very high heat temperatures like trivets.

Overall, Liquid Glass offers a safe, convenient, and versatile alternative to traditional resin and Luxe Water Fx for fluid art projects. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced artist, this product is worth considering for your next project.
