Before you even think about posting a single pin, you need to ensure that your Pinterest account is set up for success. Think of your Pinterest profile as the storefront of your creative enterprise – it needs to be inviting, informative, and optimized to attract your target audience.

Optimizing Your Profile

First things first, let's talk about your profile. Your profile should serve as a snapshot of who you are and what you offer. It's your chance to make a compelling first impression and entice visitors to explore further.

Make sure your profile image, title, and description clearly convey your brand identity and the value you provide. Don't forget to sprinkle in relevant keywords to help Pinterest understand what your account is all about.

Building Your Boards

Next up, let's talk boards. Your boards are like the chapters of your Pinterest story – they help organize your content and make it easier for users to discover what you have to offer.

But here's the secret sauce: your board titles and descriptions should also be optimized with keywords. Think of your boards as SEO goldmines, ripe for exploration by eager Pinners searching for inspiration.

Uncovering Hidden Gems through Keyword Research

Your pins need to be targetting keywords that people are searching for inside of Pinterest. But where do you find these magical keywords, you ask? It's easy! Pinterest tells you the keywords.

Simply head to the search bar and start typing in words or phrases that are related to your niche. Much like Google autocomplete, Pinterest will suggest a treasure trove of keywords based on what users are actively searching for. It's like tapping into the collective consciousness of the Pinterest community, unlocking insights that can fuel your content strategy.

For example, type in "oil painting" in the search bar, but don't hit the enter button yet! See what keywords Pinterest is suggesting. All of those suggestions are potential keywords you can use for your pins.

Now click enter! You'll now see other related keyword suggestions from Pinterest. If you click on any of those, you will get a long tailed keywords.

For example... click on the "Beginners" colorful bubble found underneath the search bar. See how the keyword in the search bar turned from "oil painting" to "oil painting for beginners"?

If you keep clicking the different keyword suggestions found in the colorful bubbles underneath the search bar, your keyword phrase will start getting more and more specific.

Another great place to look for keywords is by clicking on one of the very first pins shown after you perform a search. After you pick one that catches your attention, scroll down until you see the section that says "More to explore". Keep scrolling until you find a section that says "Ideas you might love". There are other keywords that you could use for your pins.

Analyzing Performance Metrics

Now, let's take a closer look at your Pinterest board. Now that you're Pinterest account is starting to gain traction, it's time to analyze the performance of your pins. It all comes down to optimization and iteration.

Each week, take a moment to review your pins and identify any underperformers. These pins are ripe for a makeover – whether it's a new image, revised keywords, or a fresh perspective, don't be afraid to experiment until you find the winning formula.

But it's not just about fixing what's broken – it's also about celebrating your successes. Every month, revisit your top-performing pins and consider reposting them to give them a second chance to shine. Remember, what worked once may work again, so don't let your best content get buried in the depths of your profile.

Consistency and Variety

Now, let's talk about consistency and variety.

Remember, your audience is in different stages of their journey. Some might be looking for tips on how to get started. Others might be ready to go more in depth into the topic. And some might be ready to join your courses or buy a painting from you. So create a variety of pins that meet different needs for the various stages of their journey.

In terms of pin formats, we discussed the importance of variety. While static pins are effective, incorporating video pins can provide an additional boost to engagement. By experimenting with different pin formats, businesses can cater to diverse audience preferences and maximize visibility.

So for your Pinterest strategy, I suggest making 4 pins for each blog post, Youtube video, or any other place you want to send traffic to. Three of these pins will be static pins, one will be a video!

Aim to post three to five pins per day, spreading them out across your boards to maintain a varied and dynamic profile. Instead of bombarding your audience with multiple pins on the same topic all at once, stagger your posts to keep things fresh and engaging. Remember, variety is the spice of life – and your Pinterest profile is no exception.

Also, I recommend posting at least once every other day. If you can post everyday, even better!

Why Choose Pinterest vs Social Media

Well, Pinterest is sort of a mix between social media and a search engine. Your video pins will create engagement in the platform while the static pins will drive traffic to your website, youtube channel, or other platforms.

Since Pinterest acts more like a search engine than a social media platform, there is a certain evergreen appeal to it, meaning that the content you upload will be visible for years to come.

So as you can see, it's the best mix of both worlds!
